35 years ago Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso founded The California Buddhist Institute, the first Kadampa Meditation Center in the United States that we now know and love as Kadampa Meditation Center San Francisco. Though our name changed, our mission remains the same– to spread Kadam Dharma throughout the Bay Area by making meditation accessible and affordable for all.

From a handful of students meeting in a San Jose house, we now have an extraordinary city Temple with expansive offerings and study programs, Community Residences and a growing Sangha of dedicated teachers, students, members and volunteers.

All of these wonderful developments are thanks to the collective efforts of so many members and friends. And to the annual generosity of donors like you to our KMC SF Year-End Campaigns.

Now we are on to the next 35 years, and we’ve many more lives to change. Funds raised this year will grow future Bay Area branches, like the one kicking off soon in Oakland, with the resources needed to make maximum community impact.

Excited by our plans to reach more people faster, a generous Sangha member has offered to match up to $50,000 of others’ donations–doubling the value and merit of your generosity. A $100 donation is now $200, a $500 now a $1000…no dollar amount is too small or large until together we hit $100,000 dollars.

Even with the extraordinary efforts of our devoted volunteers and managers, the KMC SF Team simply can not succeed in a city as expensive as San Francisco without the financial support of kind donors like yourself determined to share the gift of affordable meditation for all.
