What to expect at a drop-in class

All of our drop-in meditation classes are perfectly suited for busy modern people. You do not need to be a Buddhist to enjoy and understand Buddha’s teachings – anyone can benefit from increased inner peace.

What to expect

All classes are taught by our Resident Teacher or other experienced Kadampa teachers.

The general structure of the class is as follows:

1. Simple guided breathing meditation
2. Practical teaching on how to solve problems in daily life
3. Second guided meditation on the teaching topic
4. Brief discussion or Q & A

Although these drop-in meditation classes are taught as a series, each class is self-contained, so feel free to attend any one.

People who have never meditated before can benefit from our classes; everyone is welcome. Teachings are presented in a clear and accessible manner, and meditations are guided so that both beginner and seasoned meditators can experience the benefits of meditation.

We ask that shoes are removed before entering the meditation room. Most people sit in chairs, but cushions are available up front if you prefer to sit on the floor. Before the teacher enters the room, it is traditional to stand out of respect, but this is not necessary.

In San Francisco, we offer drop-in meditation classes on Monday and Tuesday evenings and Sunday morning.
