About KMC SF
Creating Inner Peace in San Francisco for over 35 years
Kadampa Meditation Center San Francisco exists to provide everybody in the SF Bay Area with the opportunity to learn about and practice Buddha’s teachings. To fulfill this aim we have created a peaceful city sanctuary located in the heart of the Mission. Based on the books of the modern day Buddhist teacher, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, we present Buddha’s teachings and meditation practice in an accessible manner that can easily be integrated into busy modern life.
Everyone is welcome.

KMC SF was established in 1991, and is the first Kadampa Meditation Center in the US. Our center resides in a historically-protected building, which was built in 1918 during the restoration of the Mission after the 1906 earthquake. The building was originally a Spiritualist Church.
KMC SF is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) non profit organization, and part of the New Kadampa Tradition—International Kadampa Buddhist Union. The NKT-IKBU is an international association of Mahayana Buddhist study and meditation centers, and a registered charity (1015054), that follows the Kadampa Buddhist tradition founded by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche.
