About Modern Buddhism

Modern Buddhism—An Unbroken Lineage

The founder of Buddhism in this world was Buddha Shakyamuni who lived and taught in India 2,500 years ago. Since then, millions of people around the world have followed the pure spiritual path he revealed. The Buddhist way of life—of peace, loving kindness, and wisdom—is just as relevant today as it was in ancient India.

Kadampa Buddhism is a special, practical presentation of Buddha’s teachings that is particularly suited to the modern day. It was introduced into contemporary society by the world-renowned meditation master and scholar, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche.
